First Interstate and Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines) will provide $700,000 in combined support to 34 nonprofit organizations across South Dakota.
The total includes $200,000 from First Interstate, matched up to three times through FHLB Des Moines’ Member Impact Fund.
These grants help organizations meet daily needs and invest in long‑term opportunity. Funds will support programs that address food security, youth development, housing stability, transportation access, workforce readiness, and other local priorities.
“Partnering with FHLB Des Moines allows us to amplify our giving so more South Dakota nonprofits can move their work forward,” said Jay Mitchell, Eastern South Dakota State President. “This support helps organizations serve neighbors where it matters most.”
“The Member Impact Fund match stretches each dollar further,” said Scott Reiman, Western South Dakota State President. “Together, we’re helping local partners sustain essential services and build capacity for the future.”
Launched in 2023, the Member Impact Fund matches charitable contributions from FHLB Des Moines member institutions to eligible not‑for‑profit and government organizations. In its latest round, FHLB Des Moines announced more than $12.9 million in awards to members, distributed alongside member contributions across the Bank’s district.
First Interstate’s contribution reflects our longstanding philanthropic approach. Each year, we set aside 2% of pre‑tax earnings to support community needs across our footprint. These funds back programs that develop the workforce, strengthen early childhood education, and reduce the effects of poverty.
